Idea Mood Board:

In this mood board I highlight some mechanics of existing games that include some sort of mixing.

The chemist: like a 3D version of the mechanic I plan to make, pouring mechanic exactly how I imagined.

SchoolOfDragons: UI to hold all the elements for the player, very handy

Pokémon SwSh: Mixing mechanic when cooking, I like the interactivity.
Descriptive Piece:
My game mechanic is going to be mainly focused on the idea of mixing and using elements and chemicals to create a rocket fuel source for the empty energy core in the player’s ship, when the fuel is created and inserted back into the energy core and placed inside the ship, the player will have completed their task. The main features of this mechanic are the ability to mix these elements with great detail, I mean that the player will have to pour, mix and heat the elements themselves. It will give a sense of control and will hopefully make the player more interested as whether they get home or not is directly tied to how they play. It will mainly be a 3D UI project, so I will have UI elements so the player can get elements and do what they need to get done, there will also be a prompt box on the bottom of the screen which will tell the player what they need to next in order to create the fuel.
I did research into how rocket fuel is actually made so what the player will have to do is scientifically accurate which shows research into STEM. The player will have to make sure to mix the elements properly and with the right amount. If the player does a step wrong they will either explode or pass out due to toxic chemicals so they should make sure that they properly read the prompts.
The character was on a trip back to earth from a far away planet, however, he inputted the co-ordinates for earth incorrectly and ran out of fuel landing on the wrong planet. Now he must find elements to make fuel so that they can get back home and tell the control team of their journey.
Mechanic Flowchart:

Here is a flowchart portraying how I expect my mechanic to work.

I will use this to help me develop the mechanic.

I will include this in my survey to see how other people take to it and what they're thoughts are.
UI Mock Ups:

In these mock ups for the ui, I experiment with the position of boxes and different kind of boxes.

As seen in my mood boards and research, I took inspiration from SoD mainly for the UI.

These will also be on my survey.
Mixing Outcomes:

This is a sheet I made to hold all the info for the actual science and process of making the fuel.

I'll use it as a guide for when I script the actual mechanic.

Planning Survey:
I made a survey to gather feedback on my planning, this will help direct my production by seeing what other people think.

Here's a link to the survey:
Survey Results:

In conclusion:
-
The flowchart makes sense
-
Layout 3 is most popular
-
Gives the most screen space
Q1: I asked if my flowchart makes sense, 6/7 people said it did, whilst 1 person said some of it did. However, they didn't expand on their answer.

Q2: 2/3 people couldn't think of anything I left out but 1 person was confused about the energy core, which is just what the fuel will power.

Q3: 57% of people agreed on layout 3 being the best layout. 2nd was layout 2 and last being layout 1. I will create layout 3 based on this information.

Q4: Layout 3 seems to be popular as it provides more screen space and it is more simple.
